Lydia turns 3!

Mom asked Lydia a week before her birthday, "So what do you want for your birthday?"


"I don't know," Lydia shrugged.


"Would you be happy with a rock?" Mom asked.


"Ooh!" Lydia squealed. "A pink rock, and a purple rock!"



Well, she didn't get any rocks, but there was definitely a lot of pink and purple going on. :)


Here we're singing her 'Happy Birthday', and I guess she decided to roll on the couch.



Opening presents ...

Her birthday cakes which Mom decorated. Lydia wanted to put 'marshmayows and m&ms' in the cake ... and it turned out really good! Then we found some pink marshmallows to decorate it with. :)

Lydia had been talking for weeks how she was going to have 'a flower cake and a butterfly cake', but when they were getting the cake pans out, she changed her mind and decided on a 'bunny wabbit and an ice-team cone'. :D
She had the hardest time figuring how to blow out her candles ... it was pretty funny watching her.
Lydia may think she blew out her own candles ... but I have photographic evidence. :P
Grandma asked her several weeks ago what she wanted for her birthday. Lydia shrugged, "A pink gun." All of us laughed, 'cause we'd never heard her say anything about a gun before, and she sounded like she'd given it some thought!
And sure enough, Grandma found a pink gun!

Mom put Lydia to bed, and asked, "What was your favorite part of your birthday?"

"Popsicles!" she answered.

Mom did a second take. "But we didn't have popsicles."

"I know, but they're the best!" Lydia said. Guess we all failed at that one. :P

I did Lydia's birthday pictures this morning. I came to the conclusion that it's so much easier to shoot this little girl candid ... here's some shots from a couple of weeks ago:

"3 More Sleeps!"

I know, what?

Emily wanted to know the same thing. ;)

"3 more sleeps until I get my new sleep machine!" Mom said jubilantly.

Mom has sleep apnea. Which, actually, is kind of cool. I feel kind of bad saying that, but since they know there is a problem, that means they can fix the problem. She had a sleep test last week ... before the test, the dr. told her that with the amount of sleep she's been getting, she's considered sleep deprived. Also, that her airway was so small, they could hardly see it. Not good. :S

After the test, they found out she stopped breathing 9 times an hour, her oxygen levels fell below 80%, and had a hard time coming back up. Also not good.

The doctors seem to think that if they can fix her sleeping problems, it will also help the continuing headaches and heart pain. Which makes sense ... if you're getting a good night's sleep, the world is a much nicer place to live in. ;)

So, Thursday night she goes back in to get fitted for a c-pap machine. Pray that the test goes well, and also that the machine works. :)

Emily's Birthday

Emily turned 12 on September 10!

Dad bought her a hot pink camera ...
And Daniel sewed her a pillowcase in her favorite colors ... he did french seams on it! He showed it to Mom in progress, and she was like, "You've got it pinned wrong sides together."

"I know," Daniel says. "I'm doing french seams."

Mom raised her eyebrows. "How on earth do you know how to do french seams?"

"I remember when Mrs. B. told Megan how to do them last summer," Daniel remarks nonchalantly. Pretty impressive!

Emily loved it. =)

Emily decorated her own cakes ... a teddy bear and a flower. I'd post pix of the cake but they're on Emily's camera. ;-)
Here's the pictures of Emily we did this afternoon ... we have a blast taking pictures. Emily's always willing to model for me!




You see, chairs don't just end up in a field on accident ... they must be carried there by someone.

"Do you have a flat head?" Emily asks me.

"Uh, no."

"That's because you haven't carried enough chairs!" she says.

Benny and the boys

Benny had a mole removed a week ago, he gets the stitches out tomorrow. The dr. originally planned to anaesthetize him, but since he's had a history of seizures, the dr. said he wouldn't do that. But, he agreed to do it with only local anaesthetic, in the office. Benny did great - the dr. said he did better than some of the 14 year olds they'd had come in! He got a lot of status in the house, being the only one who had 'stitches'. Mom told him he could pick out a book or a candy bar, something special when he was done. Joey told him "You should ask for a new bike!" :D I think he ended up with a doughnut. :)

Last week, I went out and took pictures of Daniel playing with the boys:

They kicked the ball into the garden, and it popped on one of the vines, or something, but Ben had fun playing with it.
It's hysterical to watch Daniel run around.


As Robbie says, "He's not dramatic at all ...."
